There are 32 countries from around the world that are competing in the 2014 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup hosted by Brazil.
In total there will be 64 FIFA World Cup matches, held from June 12 till July 13 2014, will be played in a total of 12 cities which are: Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Cuiabá, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and São Paulo.
But I love watching futbol (soccer) every four years! Of course I will be cheering for the USA team event though are chances are slim.
The USA World Cup Team
There are 23 players who have been selected for the World Cup 2014 USA national team. Notably absent from the list, Landon Donovan, was not selected.
How far will Team USA Go?
Although I would be quite surprised if team USA gets to the semi-finals, they did have an impressive 2-1 win in its opening Match in group G. Unfortunately during that match Jozy Altidore, lead forward, suffered a devastating hamstring strain in a 2-1 victory over Ghana on Monday.
Altidore fell to the ground in agony while chasing after a long ball down the line in the 20th minute. After lying on the ground in agony for several minutes, he had to be stretchered from the field at Arena das Dunas. The status of Jozy Altidore remains in doubt.
This Will Be The First World Cup Ever With Goal-Line Technology. Finally!
14 cameras will be set up around the rim of each host stadium. 7 of these cameras will focus on 1 goal, where the other 7 will focus on the opposite goal. They are connected to a central mainframe computer which analyses each shot on goal. When the match ball crosses the goal line, the referee will feel a vibration and receive a visual sign stating: “Goal”. How does he feel the vibration and see “Goal”? Simple, by wearing a special watch connected to the mainframe computer. This will definitely erase all doubt and reduce chances of error that could cause a team to lose a match from a bad call.
