I am a die heart Miami Heat fan and I will always be a Heat fan regardless of what LeBron James does. I was there in Miami during 2006 when we one our 1st Championship with Dwayne Wade (D-Wade) and Shaquille Oneal.
Folks have to understand the NBA is a business. LeBron is the greatest player in the world and will be remembered as one of the greats long after he retires regardless of what people say now.
LeBron James To Opt Out Of Deal
LeBron James had until June 30 to decide whether to opt out of the final two years of his contract with Miami. He was scheduled to make $20 million next season and had two years and about $42.7 million remaining on his deal.
LeBron James‘ agent Rich Paul has informed the Miami Heat that the four-time NBA MVP will exercise his early termination option and become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Opting out does not mean that James has decided to leave the Heat, sources said.
So how did the Heat franchise respond to LeBron’s decision?
“The last four seasons have been historic, and LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Erik Spoelstra have led the Miami Heat to one of the most unprecedented runs in the history of the NBA. We look forward to sitting down with LeBron and his representatives and talking about our future together. At the moment, we are preparing for the opportunities in the draft and free agency as we continue with our goal of winning NBA championships.” said Heat President Pat Riley
What About Miami’s Big 3?
It’s possible that all three could opt out of their contracts to make room for another impact player to help give the Heat a boost. While Chris Bosh and James may consider going elsewhere, it’s especially unlikely that Dwayne Wade would ever leave Miami — his production has slowed dramatically in the past few seasons, it was his team first and the only one he’s ever played for.
So where will LeBron go?
New York, Chicago, LA, stay in Miami or back to Cleveland where he started. One thing is for sure there will be many teams scrambling to clear their rosters in order to make him a legitimate offer!!!
Final Thoughts
LeBron opting out puts him in control of his own destiny. Smart business move! If James does leave, it’s clear it won’t be a money thing — while James could sign a max contract with the Heat, he made it clear that his decision is about winning championships, not his paycheck.
Whatever team he plays on has an advantage. Don’t see too many people posting “We don’t want LeBron on our team!” on Facebook or the internet, do we?
